I miss the competitive tracking used to throw down in hectic, minute-long Blitz matches this time around, too. I'd love to try building better hands than my buddies. That game's multiplayer component could have gone a long way toward competitive Bejeweled 3. Bejeweled 3 is missing some stuff from earlier versions, like the Twist mode found in Bejeweled Blitz Live. Poker also feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. It's necessary, though, otherwise you'll end up with nothing but pairs. It's not for the actual poker I like it so much, but taking my time to think a few turns ahead before making a move. Tacking Bejeweled onto existing games is a bit of a hokey and rudimentary way of adding variety, but this is actually pretty interesting. The highest value of your hand is the number of points you receive. Each match assigns a card (the gem color) to one of five cards. The layered strategy there is satisfying in the same way as the game's spin on poker. Even without a timer there's an enormous amount of pressure to play perfectly. Every time they made their way up I worried. I had to analyze as many aspects of the layout as possible to avoid sending the little critters to their delicious doom. Linking your new flapping friends to two appropriately shaded gems sends them to safety, so you're forced to find the fastest means of freeing them before a spider gobbles 'em up at the top. Special butterfly gems ascend the board with each turn. Butterflies mode, for instance, is a terrific test of perception. The game continues to receive yearly bug fix and optimization updates.The unlockable gameplay types, earned simply by dabbling in the already available modes, each bring a bit of innovation to the table. The most recent content update, released on March 29, 2017, added Ice Storm to the game, alongside the game mode's badges. On October 20, 2016, Boosts were introduced to Bejeweled Classic, which could help the player in-game, alongside several new microtransaction items in the Game Store.

Poker was released as a trial version, which could be unlocked in full by paying $2.99 USD for the full version of the mode. On February 27, 2014, Poker from Bejeweled 3 was added to the game, alongside new badges. On July 12, 2012, the Lightning game mode was added, alongside it's badges. The first major update, released on February 29, 2012, added the Butterflies game mode to the game, along with new badges. On May 12, 2012, a seperate iPad-optimized version of the game, Bejeweled Classic HD (formerly Bejeweled HD) was released on the iPad App Store, featuring full-screen gameplay, a new interface and animated backgrounds.
The soundtrack for Bejeweled Deluxe was composed by Peter Hajba. Jason Kapalka provided the voice of the announcer in the game. Development on Bejeweled Deluxe lasted about three months. Originally, game designer Jason Kapalka heavily disliked the Bejeweled name out of all the names suggested, but eventually the team went with the Bejeweled name. Microsoft suggested the name Bejeweled, a pun to the film Bedazzled, along with other names.
However Microsoft suggested a name change as the name sounded too similar to an existing game, Diamond Mines, and wanted a unique name of the game for their website. PopCap later developed Diamond Mine into a full title with partnership of Microsoft, which allowed the Microsoft Zone and other game sites to host Bejeweled, including advertisement versions of the game.
